Getting Started

First-Time Setup

Section titled “First-Time Setup”
  1. Download ByteVault from your app store
  2. Open the app and tap “Create New Wallet”
  3. Secure your backup phrase (12 words) — write it down and store safely
  4. Enable biometric authentication when prompted

Using ByteAuth

  1. Navigate to a login page with a ByteAuth QR code
  2. Open ByteVault and tap the scan button
  3. Point your camera at the QR code
  4. Review the domain name shown
  5. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode
  6. Done — you’re authenticated!

Do’s

  • Keep your backup phrase written on paper in a secure location
  • Enable biometric authentication
  • Keep your device’s operating system updated
  • Verify the domain name before authenticating

Don’ts

  • Never share your backup phrase with anyone
  • Never enter your backup phrase on a website
  • Never screenshot your backup phrase
  • Never authenticate to domains you don’t recognize

Troubleshooting

Can’t Scan QR Code?

  • Ensure your camera has permission to access ByteVault
  • Make sure the QR code is well-lit and in focus
  • Try moving closer or further from the screen
  • Ensure the QR code hasn’t expired (refreshes every 30 seconds)

Authentication Failed?

  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure you’re scanning a valid ByteAuth QR code
  • The challenge may have expired — wait for the QR to refresh
  • Contact the website’s support if issues persist

Lost Your Device?

If you have your backup phrase:

  1. Download ByteVault on your new device
  2. Select “Restore from Backup”
  3. Enter your 12-word backup phrase
  4. All your identities will be restored
